GOVERNOR elect in Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has said lawyers in the country may not be all that happy with the outcome of the just-concluded elections because it was credible and fair.
He said the credibility and peaceful atmosphere that reigned during the election was evident in the lesser number of petitions filed at various election tribunals across the country.
Ajimobi, who was speaking at the presentation of certificates of returns to candidates of political parties who won in the elections said though there were hot exchanges of words, they did not go beyond politics.
No fewer than 50 candidates from the Action Congress of Nigeria, Peoples Democratic party and Accord Party were given their certificates in Ibadan. Among those who were given certificates of returns are the governor-elect, deputy governor elect, senators, members of House of Representatives and House of Assembly.
The governor-elect who specifically applauded the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by the out-going Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and Senator Rashidi Ladoja by congratulating him on his victory, said there were no losers in the elections but that all of the contestants were winners.
“There were no losers in the election. We are all winners. I am grateful to many people for their love. I single out Governor Akala. He is a friend of mine. But, in this game of politics, there are times we have to look each other straight in the face. Let us thank God because we did not engage in boxing tournament. I am also grateful to Senator Ladoja who has shown good sportsmanship. Ladoja has visited and congratulated me”, he said.
He indicated interest to meet the out-going governor whom he referred to as his brother to exchange pleasantries
The National Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega who was represented by the National secretary of the electoral body, Alhaji Abdulahi Kaugama said he was particularly happy with the people of the state for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves during the election.
There was a stir during the event as many people shivered thinking erroneously that the booming sound of the police band was a bomb.
