The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, Tuesday directed the provision of adequate security for those involved in WAEC examinations in Kaduna and Bauchi states.
A statement by the police spokesman, Mr Olusola Amore, said the directive became necessary following the rescheduling of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the states.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that INEC had rescheduled the elections for April 28 in the two states following the violence that trailed the April 16, presidential election.
But the April 28 date coincided with one of the dates in the on-going examinations.
The statement said the restriction of movement would not apply in Kaduna and Bauchi during the re-scheduled elections as it concerns workers of WAEC and students involved in the examination.
“The IG has, therefore, directed the Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, AIGs, and Commissioners of Police in the states to provide adequate security for WAEC staff and students writing the Mathematics examination tomorrow,” it said.
The statement urged all those involved in the examination not to panic over their safety, assuring them that their security was guaranteed.
“The I-G is urging the participating students and their parents to concentrate primarily on their examination,” it said.
