Sapele  Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Ada, has expressed shock over the activities of Peoples Democratic Peoples, PDP, thugs, who  ravaged Sapele in the early hours of yesterday, following reports of victory of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, gubernatorial candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, over his main oppenent, Governor Emmauel Uduaghan of the PDP.

Dr Ada expressed  shock when his opinion was sought by newsmen on the mayhem in Sapele,  when a large number of PDP thugs loyal to a Sapele politician and a serving House of Assembly candidate, who was also PDP candidate in Tuesday’s assembly election for Sapele constitutency, unleashed mayhem on innocent people upon hearing that their candidate was loosing in the election.

The thugs, numbering over 50, who freely used shot guns and matchets on people, also destroyed a Honder car belonging to Chief Cyril Ogodo, the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP candidate for Sapele consitutuency in the election.

When Vanguard visited the scene, blood stains were still fresh on the ground.  At the Okurighwe axis, four PDP thugs were shot on the legs by anti-riot policemen when the thugs tried to snatch a ballot box from a polling unit during the election. One of the thugs died hours later.

The DPO in Sapele Police Area Command, confirmed that there was a gun battle between the thugs and the police, resulting in the death of one.

In another development, the DPP candidate for Okpe, Uvwie and Sapele constitutency, in Tuesday’s election, Mr. Micheal Omuvwie, was on Tuesday, arrested on allegation of arm possession but was later released after the police searched his car and  residence and foundd no arms.
