Barely 72 after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Alakuko, CSP Joseph Olatunmokun and two other policemen were killed by armed robbers in Lagos State,operatives of the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS),at the early hours of yesterday, killed a seven-man gang of robbers, who have been terrorizing residents of the state in recent times during a shoot-out in Mushin.
The robbers, who were armed with dangerous weapons including an AK74 rifle with 85 live ammunition, were said to have meet their waterloo, around 3 a.m. at a spot close to Challenge Bus-Stop, in Mushin, where they were waiting to lunch an operation.
Sources disclosed that a member of the gang who was earlier arrested by operatives of SARS gave out his colleagues. The arrested suspect, whose identities could not be ascertained at press time, was said to have contacted other members of his gang, informing them of an operation where they could make huge sum of money.
They agreed to meet at a location in Mushin, where the police reportedly ambushed and killed the seven of them, who were packed in a red Honda Accord Academy, with number plate AE 457KSB.
The command spokesman, Mr Samuel Jinadu, while confirming the reports said the command did not relent in its efforts towards reducing crimes and criminality to its ebb in the state.
Jinadu also added that one AK74 rile,85 live ammunition, one barrette pistol with 14 rounds of live ammunition, one pump action long gun and 33 live cartridges, two locally made pistol and a Honda Accord Academy were recovered.
