London 2012 Olympic draw holds today

By JACOB AJOM
The draw for the 2nd main round of the men’s qualifiers in the Olympic Football Tournaments, London 2012 will be held at the CAF Headquarters this morning.

The 16th qualified team will only be known on 20 April 2011, as FIFA has postponed the return leg match between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire for this same date in order to allow the Ivorian team to leave its territory to play this match.

The sixteen teams are divided into 2 pots, one containing the 8 seeded teams and the second one the next best 8 teams. The FIFA Coca Cola ranking of March 2011 has determined the seeded teams.

Consequently, one ball from pot 1 will be drawn and placed in the central empty pot, one ball from pot 2 will then be drawn and placed in this same central pot. The two balls will be stirred again. The first ball drawn will determine which team will play its home match first (first_leg match), the second ball drawn determines the order for the return_leg match. All the balls will be of the same colour.

This procedure will be repeated 7 times, until all 8 matches are known.
The seeded teams that are in pot 1 include winner between Côte d’Ivoire/Liberia (Côte d’Ivoire, rank 2), Egypt (rank 3) ; Nigeria (rank 4) Tunisia (rank 8) South Africa (rank 9) Algeria (rank 10) Gabon (rank 11) and Morocco (rank 12);

Pot 2 (non_seeded teams) include Senegal (rank 14), Benin (rank 17), Mali (rank 18), Zambia (rank 22), Sudan (rank 26), Congo (rank 29), Tanzania (rank 30) and Congo DR (rank 32).
