… stakeholders arrive collation centre
Abuja – The stage is set for the announcement of final presidential election results by the Chief Returning Officer, Prof Attahiru Jega, as accredited stakeholders arrive the National Collation Centre in Abuja.
As at 9.07 a.m. Jega and his team arrived the venue of the collation, the Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) were already at the centre.
Others, who had arrived, were party agents of some of the parties, local and international observers, security personnel and journalists.
NAN reports that 20 presidential candidates including a woman took part in the 2011 presidential poll with 73 million registered voters in the 36 states of the federation.
In 1999 presidential election, where only three political parties, AD, PDP, APP participated the total number of registered voters was 57,938,945 million with AD scoring 34,295, APP 11, 110, 287 and PDP 18,738,154 votes.
The invalid votes recorded in 1999 was 397,316 while the total votes was 30,280,052 million with 52.26 per cent of voter turnout.
In 2003 presidential election, 20 parties participated with a total valid votes of 39,480,489, out of the total registered voters of 60,823,022.
The percentage of valid votes of registered voters in 2003 election was 64.91 per cent while the rejected votes was 2,538,246, as against the total votes cast of 42,018,735 resulting into 69.08 percentage of voter turn out.
PDP in that election scored 24,456,140 million votes amounted to 61.94 per cent , as against ANPP 12,710,022 million votes equivalent to 32.19 per cent, while APGA polled 1,297,445, votes of 3.29 per cent.
In 2007 presidential elections, only 18 political parties took part in the exercise with the total votes got by PDP as 24,638,063, equivalent to 69.82 per cent.
ANPP polled 6,605,299 million votes equivalent to 18.72 per cent while AC scored 2,637,848 million votes of 7.47 per cent.
