Sunday in Lagos with the formal presentation of awards to Mai Atafo and Omowunmi Akinnifesi, Allure Style Icons 2011.

Men and women from all walks of life as well as friends and well wishers of the winners, defied the heavy down pour last Sunday, to honour one of their own. The event took place at the exquisite, Atlantic Beach Centre, Victoria Island.

Organised to be a night of glamour and fun, the show kicked off with DJ Sax setting guests in a party mood as he played his saxophone to everyone’s delight dishing out contemporary songs done with the jazz feel. His dexterity at his instrument of trade, left everyone wanting for more.

In a welcome address, editor of Allure, Mrs Remi Diagbare, thanked the guests for defying the rains to honour the two voted Icons. She pointed out that although she was criticized by a section of readers that the winners were too young to be style icons, she noted that today, “it has become very obvious that style is young and style is trendy”. This she observed fit the bill of the two winners. She revealed that the awards would be expanded from next yea, to create a category for older men and women who have regaled us with their style over the years.
