The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Camp in Kubwa, Abuja came alive on Monday as the premium soft drink, Fayrouz rewarded outstanding corps members in the Miss NYSC beauty contest and Mr. Macho competition with fabulous prizes.
The atmosphere at the camp reach its feverish peak as the contestants in the beauty contest and Mr Macho competition filled out to flaunt their natural endowments to the admiration of their platoon members. It was a display of the Nigeria’s rich culture in diversity. The ladies as well as their male counterparts were beauty to behold in their traditional attires.
The beautiful ladies wore the best of Nigerian attires and foreign dresses for different occasions as the highly appreciative audience responded with thunderous applauses.
The tone of the night was set by the FCT NYSC State coordinator, Mrs Lynda Amugoh who assured the corps members of a night to remember for a long time with the kind gesture of the brewing giant, Nigerian Breweries Plc by organizing the NYSC variety night for the corpers. She said ‘’we are here tonight to have fun; and we shall all have fun I can assure you” She however, commended Fayrouz for bringing life to the camp through its participation in the three-week orientation camp.
According to her, Nigerian Breweries Plc has been a good partner with NYSC in realizing the objectives of the scheme through activities that expose the corps members to the cultures of the various parts of the country. She commended the management of Nigerian Breweries for identifying with the principles upon which the NYSC scheme was established over forty years ago. She pointed out that through Fayrouz; Nigerian Breweries has been able to encourage the Nigerian youths to foster unity amongst one another to achieve national development. ”The essence of the scheme is for young Nigerians from different parts of the country to come together to know one another better for the development of the country; and that is exactly what Fayrouz has been able to achieve here this evening”, she posited.
Star prize of Compaq Laptop Computer was won by Miss NYSC 2011, FCT, Abuja Miss Amanda Onwuatu to the satisfaction of over three thousand corps members that thronged the camp’s open field to witness the memorable event.
A giant refrigerator went to the first runner-up, Nana Hauwa Bawa while a DVD Player was clinched by second runner-up, Miss Emmanuela Harrison. Various consolation prizes were also given out to other contestants by the premium non-alcoholic soft drink from the stable of Nigerian Breweries Plc.
Umar Khalifa Mohammed won the NYSC Mr Macho competition while Ohakwe Ikenna and Ayeni Oreoluwa emerged first and second runners-up respectively; carting home prizes ranging from giant fan and Samsung refrigerator. Umar however, went home with a Compaq Laptop as the winner of the keenly contested Mr Macho competition.
Fayrouz is the refreshingly different non-alcoholic drink with a golden foam head which comes in two flavours-Pineapples and Pear. The brand continues to enjoy wide acceptability from consumers who are predominantly young adults because of its unique taste and attractive packaging.
As the event got underway, atmosphere at the camp was electrifying as members of the various platoons lined up solidly behind their colleagues who represented them in a dance competition that preceded the beauty contest. As the contestants took their turn to flaunt their attributes during the stage parade, thunderous noise rented the air as the contest literarily turned to a show of wit amongst the platoons. The panel of judges had a herculean task arriving at the choice of Miss NYSC as any of the last three contestants could have ended up the over-all winner.
The girls were beauty to behold in their traditional attires as they cart-walked the length and breadth of the stage with thunderous applause from the audience which included all the top officials of the State NYSC led by the State Coordinator.
Members of the audience were rolling on the floor in ecstasy in appreciation of the stuff the comedians were made of. The contestants were handsomely rewarded by Fayrouz with mouth-watering gifts for taking part in the contests, thereby contributing in no small measure to making the night a huge success.
