Eagles: Cohesion will come through more grade ‘A’ friendly matches – Siasia

By Philips Adefioye
Super Eagles chief coach Samson Siasia has called on the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, to organise more grade A friendly matches for the Eagles in order to blend and fortify the team.

Siaisa said the team’s three straight wins since he took over as coach were not enough to say he has gotten a formidable team that can win the Nations Cup, adding that he and his colleagues were still building a team that will be the team to beat in the near future.

The former Nantes FC of France striker hinted that nine goals in three matches is not the measure for a good team that one can boast of, adding ,”We are still building, we have not yet arrived, we need to do more in order to achieve our target and goal. There is no permanent shirt for any player and the players are being invited based of their performance.

“I want the NFA to organise more friendly matches for us so that it will make the players know themselves very well and with time make the team very formidable. The friendly match against Argentina is one match that can make us grow”.

Siasia who applauded President Goodluck Jonathan for his concern for Super Eagles asked the NFA to organise a grade ‘A’ friendly match, aside the Argentina match slated for Abuja on June 1, to celebrate the handing over on May 29, 2011.

“It is a great thing that the president is concerned about the team, to have more friendly matches will make us to have a solid team. With some Under-23 players at their peak, it means there is no automatic shirt for any player. Any friendly before the Argentina match will keep the players in shape ahead of the match.

“Most of the U-23 players are doing well and I will call any of them at any time to come and play in the Super Eagles because they are ready to give their best. That does not end there, there are still open doors for some other Nigerian players doing well both in their foreign and local clubs,” he stressed.
