BY GBENGA OLARINOYE
OSOGBO – A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, member in the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Joshua Ogunleye, representing Atakumosa West constituency, in whose house a cache of ammunition was uncovered by the Osun State Police is on the run.
The lawmaker had yesterday spoke to Vanguard from his hideout where he admitted that the residence in which the arms and ammunition were found belongs to him.
He, however, denied any knowledge of the arms and ammunition, saying that he knew nothing about it and probably that they might belong to members of the vigilante group staying in the house.
A team of police detectives had on Wednesday stormed the Osu residence of the lawmaker at number AA 4 Ajido street, where 19 brand new Italian pump action riffles, 14 live cartridges, three 7.62 mm expended ammunition, two expended cartridges and one long cutlass were recovered.
Mr. Ogunleye who is currently the chief whip of the Osun State House of Assembly is the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives in tomorrow’s election in Ijesha South federal constituency of the state.
The command spokesman, Mr Oluwagbemileke Taiwo told Vanguard last night that the police were on the trail of the lawmaker.
“We are yet to get the man in whose house the ammunition was found for proper interrogation but we are still on his trail and I want to assure you that we are closing in on him,” the PPRO said.
Already, four persons have been arrested by the police in connection with the arms and ammunition in the house of the politician and are now helping the police in their investigations.
The ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, stated that the party had been vindicated by the recovery of the arms and ammunition in the politician’s house, saying that the PDP was harboring criminals.
