LAGOS – PRESIDENTIAL candidate of Action Alliance, AA, Eng. Martin Onovo, has condemned the exclusion of his party from participating in the 2011 general elections by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, saying that it was against the 2010 Electoral Act.
He also alleged that INEC ignored a court order, directing that candidates contesting on the party’s platform should be allowed to participate in the National Assembly elections.
Onovo, in a chat with Vanguard, said that INEC was yet to explain why the party was excluded from the polls.
According to him, “the leadership of the party had taken several steps. We had written a formal protest letter to INEC chairman, complaining about the attempt to exclude our candidates in the elections.
“Again we had several meetings with INEC leadership, three of which I participated and we agreed with INEC leadership that our nominations would be accepted with clearance issued, which, however, INEC never did.”
