3 arrested over PDP/Accord Party clash in Ibadan

Ibadan-Three people have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for their alleged involvement in the fracas that broke out between the supporters of  the PDP and Accord Party at Agodi Gate  in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that trouble started when the Accord Party, which had scheduled a rally at the popular Motor Spare Parts Market (Iso part) in the area, arrived to begin the programme.

It was gathered that Accord Party had constructed a podium inside the market for the rally.

NAN further gathered that the chairman of the spare parts sellers simply called Iyan, who was also said to be a member of the PDP, had allegedly given instruction that the platform be destroyed.

Trouble started when the Accord Party supporters arrived at the scene and found that the platform had been destroyed.

In the argument that ensued with Iyan, pandemonium broke out as dangerous weapons, including guns and cutlasses, were freely used.

Traders in the area closed shops for the day as a result of the development.
When contacted on Thursday, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Adetunji Ajimuda, told NAN that no life was lost in the fracas.
