*As a deputy presidential candidate alleges death threat

ABUJA – THERE was pandemonium, yesterday, at the10th national delegates congress of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Abuja, following rumours of government’s attempts to impose leaders on the apex labour centre and take control of its day-to-day running indirectly.
This came just as the one of the four deputy presidential candidates and General Secretary of National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, Comrade Joe Ajaero, alleged threat to his life by unknown persons whom he said had been making unanimous calls and SMS messages to him to withdraw from the race in his own interest or be eliminated.
Some concerned delegates at the conference asked the leadership of Congress, led by Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, to address the restiveness concerning rumours making the rounds that the Federal Government was sponsoring a candidate into the leadership of congress to manipulate decisions of NLC to government’s favour.
President Abdulwaheed Omar, said rumours of government attempts to sponsor candidates during NLC elections were not new to the Congress, adding: “Whenever we go for an election, whether imaginary or real, you will hear reports of government attempting to sponsor candidates but the delegates are wiser and will not allow such.”
