I’ve capacity to represent Lagos Central – Tinubu

By Clifford Ndujihe

ACTION Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Lagos Central senatorial candidate and wife of immediate past governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, has dismissed as untrue and demeaning comments that she was riding on the back of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become a senator, with the aim of building a political dynasty in the state.

Unveiling her manifesto at a news conference in her Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi residence, yesterday, Mrs Tinubu said she had demonstrated the capacity, experience and knowledge to function effectively as a senator.

According to her, she was part of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, campaigns that led to June 12, 1993 victory of late Chief M.K.O Abiola and that she was also part of the long struggle to re-validate the annulled election as an operative of NADECO, for which she went into exile in the United States of America and facilitated NADECO’s activities.

Besides, Mrs Tinubu said her senatorial aspiration was four years behind schedule because “at a meeting in 1999, I told them that I wanted to be a senator immediately after my husband’s tenure in 2007 and this is 2011.”

She declared: “I have had the privilege of being the First Lady of this great state of Lagos for eight years (1999 to 2007). I am also the president of the New Era Foundation, NEF, an NGO from 2000 till date.

“I have demonstrated that I have the capacity, the experience and the knowledge to represent Lagos Central senatorial district. I hereby promise to pursue promulgation of laws that will promote the security, stability and prosperity of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.”
