AWKA -ANAMBRA elders, under the auspices of League of Anambra Democrats, has lambasted the state government and All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, for the attack on Senetor Annie Okonkwo and Dr. Chris Ngige.

Convener of the group,  Frank-Anthony Igboka, said in a statement yesterday in Awka that the attack on Senator Annie Okonkwo, Accord Party candidate and Dr, Chris Ngige of Action Congress of Nigeria in  Onitsha was unfortunate, grave and conspiratorial.

He said: “The attack on the two gentlemen by alleged APGA supporters were a crude persecution of opponents that are apparently enjoying more popularity than  APGA candidates.

 “It was clearly evident that the hired hands to procure this dangerous criminality and spread anarchy in our peace-loving state were loudly chanting APGA solidarity songs at the two locations.”

Igboka decried the vicious defacement of opposition candidates’ billboards by agents of the state, noting that it was intolerance carried too far for government to suddenly realize that it could no longer endure the sight of this universally accepted medium of political education and persuasion.

Igboka, who is also an executive of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties in the state, urged Governor Peter Obi to, as a matter of urgency, address the issue to spare the state another stigma of poor voters’ turn out and selective disenfranchisement.
