Awka – Activities in the Anambra judiciary have been paralysed following the resumption of the suspended strike action embarked upon by the state chapter of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

The state Chairman of JUSUN, Mr Mark Ifezue, said in Awka, Wednesday,  that the indefinite strike was part of a resolution reached by members of the union at its congress on Feb. 26.

He said there was no going back on their demand for the implementation of the Consolidated Salary Structure for Judicial workers (CONJUSS) by the state government.

“The strike will continue pending when the state government decides to address the problem,” he said.

Ifezue said that after their one month warning strike, which ended in February, government, through the Head of Service, only urged the union to be patient, because it had no extra money to pay workers in the state.

“The union did not find that funny. Besides, the union and government can continue dialogue, while the strike continues,” he added.

Ifezue said the union’s decision also followed the state government’s failure to release the judiciary staff scheme of service and the 2010 staff promotion.

He explained that the state governement had refused to establish judiciary pensions’ board and address the Customary Court of Appeal dispute concerning the staff of the state High Court serving at the state customary court.

The Head of Service, Mr Chidi Ezeoke, said that  government had pleaded with the union for time to consider their request to know how much it could pay, before the union embarked on the strike.

“Government has a plethora of requests for pay increase and they will all come from one purse. We urge them to return to work while negotiations continue,” he said.
