ABUJA — THE Vice Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Sen Joseph Waku, has raised an alarm over a smear campaign plot being sponsored by some politicians against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu.

Waku in a statement yesterday, said it had become necessary for him to alert the nation about a campaign of calumny against the revered office and person of the CJN by some well connected politicians who are not comfortable with the uncompromising principles of the nation’s number one judicial officer.

According to the ACF chieftain, “I have a responsibility as a patriotic Nigerian to alert the nation about any sinister agenda that could affect the peace, unity and stability of our country.

“In this case, a friend has shared with me information on some sinister moves by some desperate politicians to hide under the recent incident between the President of the Court of Appeal and the CJN to launch a campaign of calumny against the CJN with a view to force him out of office.

“This hidden plot has already begun to manifest in the series of sponsored media attacks on the CJN over a pure administrative and judicial matter that has since been resolved by the National Judicial Council, NJC. While not holding brief for the CJN, I will like to caution those behind this mob attack and gangsterism to retrace their steps.

“Those that believe that they have an ocean of resources to throw around to fight anyone against their interest should understand that Nigeria is greater than them and sooner or later they will account for their ill-gotten wealth which they are deploying to cause chaos.

“Since the NJC has absolved the CJN of any wrong doing in the aborted promotion of Justice Salami, those interested in making commentaries should endeavour to ask questions about the weighty allegations against the PCA in sworn affidavit before the court in Sokoto . Till date no one has shown interest in those allegations!

“Since we are now aware of the sinister plot against the CJN, I will like to put those funding the campaign of calumny against the CJN on notice, that we will not fail to expose their game and dirty past in full details in a matter of days if they fail to retrace their steps.”
