Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State has described the death of some citizens in the Port Harcourt stampede as most
unfortunate and tragic.

He also commiserated with President Goodluck Jonathan, Rivers State government and families of those who died in the  Port Harcourt stampede that claimed some precious lives.

Ohakim made his feelings known in a Government House, Owerri, press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary,
Mr. Henry Ekpe, and made available to journalists.

“I sympathize with President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Rotimi Amaechi and members of the families of all the
deceased citizens that died during the stampede in Port Harcourt. Their death is not only tragic but also
unfortunate”, Ohakim said.

While reasoning that the citizens did not die in vain, the Governor was also of the opinion that the deceased
patriots died for Nigerian democracy.

“They died for Nigerian democracy and will never be forgotten because they are martyrs of democracy. May God receive the souls of all those who died in the incident”, Ohakim prayed
