In a bid to avoid the stampede that took place in Port Harcourt during President Jonathan’s  campaign rally, Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Michael Zuokumor, has stressed the need for adequate preparation for crowd control ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s official visit to the state on Wednedsday.

Consequently, over 4,000 policemen have been  placed on red alert to provide security.

While in the state, President Jonathan, his vice and members of his entourage are expected to address a PDP rally and also commission some projects executed by the state government.

Zuokumor said that the Command had entered into agreement with the political parties that posters of opposition political parties would not be allowed into the arena of the rally in order not to cause confusion.

He said: “We want absolute peace before, during and even after the president’s visit to the state. A joint meeting between the police and leaders of registered political parties in the state had been held on the need to give peace a chance during the visit.”
