The Nigerian Bar Association Electoral Justice Reform Committee has suggested sanctions against proven cases of misdemeanour by judicial officers.
The Chairman of the Committee, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), said the recommendation was in a report submitted to the NBA on behalf of the 15-member committee in Abuja yesterday.
He said such established cases of corruption should be reported to anti-graft agencies for prosecution.
Ahamba said the committee also urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to constitute an ad-hoc adjudicatory panel to entertain petitions against the judicial officers.
He also said that the procedure for the conduct of the NJC in dealing with any petition against erring judicial officers should be made public.
Ahamba said the committee also recommended that judicial officers, who had been indicted or accused of judicial misconduct or corruption, should not be appointed into election tribunals in order not to erode the confidence reposed in the judiciary.
