JOS—Participants at the just concluded enlightenment programme on implementation of Inland Container Depots, ICDs, in the country have called on the concessionaires of the six ICDs to avail themselves of long term loans from the African Development Bank, ADB.

The participants noted that as a result of the high cost required for the construction and actualisation of the project and the high interest rate for loans from local banks, it is imperative for the concessionaires of approach ADB and other multilateral financial institutions for funds.

They, however, expressed disappointment at the rate of work at the various ICD sites across the country, noting that the concessionaires have note lived up to expectation with regard to the successful implementation of the dry port project, especially the one in Heipang Jos, in Plateau State.

They also acknowledged some of the complaints or difficulties faced by the concessionaires and called on the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, to sit down to sincerely identify the challenges hampering the actualisation of the dry port project.
