Jos — Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Habu Zama said over two million people were registered in the state in the just concluded votes’ registration exercise, describing it as successful despite the initial hiccups.

However, the commission lost two ad hoc workers during the exercise and only four of the seven Direct Data Capturing Machines stolen in Langtang North Local Government Area were recovered, while efforts were on to recover the others.

Briefing journalists on Monday, Zarma said one of the deceased ad hoc workers, Ishaya Kanga who was posted to Riyom Local Government Area died due to an illness while the other, Mercy Dantong who was serving in Quan Pan Local Government Area, died from fume of a generating set where she was residing.

He said both had been buried while their insurance entitlements were being processed.

He said the final figure of the registered voters would be released after the data had been processed.
Zarma added that cases of multiple registration would be discovered during the processing of data and that such names would be deleted from the system before the display of the preliminary register to enable those who registered confirm the correctness or otherwise of their data.

He disclosed that only eight of the registered political parties presented candidates for the coming elections in the state at the need of the deadline.

They include the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Democratic Peoples Party, (DPP).

Others are All Nigeria’s Peoples Party (ANPP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Mega Party.
