An amazing drama unfolded itself last Wednesday at Lafenwa Police division in Ogun State, after a robbery suspect suddenly pulled out a pistol from his waist and opened fire, in his bid to avoid arrest. The fearful development, saw most people at the station taking to their heels. Unfortunately, a man was hit by a stray bullet.

The situation was however, saved by some policemen who fired the suspect in the hand as he attempted to escape through the gate, consequent upon which his gun fell.

The suspect who later identified himself as Sunday Eroh, was reportedly found with N1.5 million and a bag containing arms and ammunition. The Benue State born, who resides in Okokomaiko area of Lagos State, reportedly visited his friend last Wednesday, in the latter’s mechanic workshop in Ogun State.

Suspect, Sunday Eroh

Trouble started for Sunday, after attempt by his friend, Friday Onoh to ascertain the content of a bag he came with,  met stiff resistance. Out of curiosity, Friday was said to have secretly searched the bag when Sunday went to eat in a buka, only to discover to his shock that the contents were fire arms and ammunition.

Apparently scared, Friday was said to have tricked his friend  right to the police station where he handed him over to the police.

According to him, “no one believed me at first, until a Corporal decided to invite Sunday to the counter. At that point, he suspected I could be up to something and he refused. When the policeman insisted he went inside, he tucked his hand into his trouser, brought out a gun and started shooting. I never knew he was this vicious. I just wanted to stay out of trouble that was why I went to the police”.

During    investigation,    the suspect according to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Musa Daura, revealed that he stole the money from his girl-friend back in Lagos State, whom he claimed was a commercial sex worker. Describing the suspect as a defiant robbery suspect, Daura noted that he could be a member of a suspected robbery gang who apparently came to Ogun to spend his loot, wondering where a commercial sex worker could get such amount as claimed by Sunday.

But in this interview, Sunday admitted to be a member of a robbery gang that had been terrorizing residents of Okokomaiko area and its environs but maintained that he stole the recovered amount from his girlfriend whose name he gave as Angela.

According to him, “ Honestly, I stole the money from my girlfriend who is a commercial sex worker at TVM Yam hotel located at Alabagun, in Okokomaiko. I will not lie to you. Yes, I am a robber and I got into robbery during my okada business, after I met some young men who promised I could get good money from the business they would introduce me into” .

Asked how many times he had gone on an operation with members of his gang, he kept mute and simply stated that they were responsible for a number of operations along Badagry expressway.

Amazingly, his friend Friday who handed him over to the police was also arrested. But clarifying the command’s position, the CP said after investigation was concluded, he would be set free.

As Police kill two suspects, arrest one

A four-man robbery gang engaged a team of policemen attached to Ikenne division in Ogun State, in a shoot-out that lasted fifteen minutes, Monday.

However at the end of the gun duel at Cemetery road,  two suspected members of the robbery gang were shot dead. Another member of the gang according to the command’s spokesman, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP), escaped with bullet wound while the forth was arrested by the policemen.

The arrested suspect who identified himself as John David, during preliminary investigation revealed that members of his gang were fleeing from a robbery scene in Lagos. According to him, they snatched a Toyota Camry- vehicle from its owner at  Maroko, in Victoria Island area of Lagos the previous day.

Owner of the Toyota Camry with plate number ER 339 LSR according to him, was intercepted at about 12 noon and ordered to surrender the keys, claiming they did not harm him.

Continuing, the 28-year-old suspect said, “ We were  four in number and we all live in Lagos. We were into snatching of vehicles and selling same in Ogun State. I only joined the gang three months ago and had gone on operation with them four times. In one of the operations, policemen from Lagos shot one of our colleagues in the leg. After that, we had to stay away from robbery for a month before we decided to embark on this one”.

At the end of the gun duel, the command’s spokesman said two locally made cut-to size guns, cartridges and the abandoned  stolen Camry  were recovered at the scene, adding that the suspect had made useful statement to detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Elewe-Eran,  that could lead to the arrest of his fleeing colleague.
