WARRI—THE Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta MEND, , denied issuing any warning that it will attack the downstream sector of the country’s oil industry.
A group claiming to be MEND, in an electronic mail statement, Tuesday, threatened to commence attack on the oil industry soon, citing among others, the continued detention and trial of Henry Okah, Charles Okaha and other militants.
But in another statement, yesterday, the group’s spokesman, Jomo Gbomo said, “MEND denies in its totality the recent warning of an attack on the downstream oil sector being circulated in the media on 18 January, 2011.
“We will be investigating the situation and will take appropriate actions to prevent this from reoccurring in the future,” the statement added.
It, however, added that “only when an attack has occurred will we send a statement of the attacks and claims.”
