Winners of the first bid by the NPL for the title sponsorship of the Nigeria Premier League, Total Promotions have rejected the decision of the NPL Congress held yesterday in Abuja.
The company did not only reject the decision of the congress but also headed for the court to reclaim what they term was their right.
In a statement issued by the management of the outfit yesterday, the company averred that the cancellation of the bid organised by the NPL on 15 and 16 of January 2011 was unilateral.
The statement said that the communique “be discountenanced as the matter is already before the Federal High Court in Lagos. It added that the NPL and the minister of sports were already aware of the pending case.
The company affirmed that it had a duly executed subsisting contract between the two parties for the next 4years and the contract fully states the process by which it can be vitiated by both parties. The statement added, “no part of this subsisting legal agreement gives one party the right to act unilaterally.”
Total Promotions, therefore added that they were duty bound to await and abide by the courts decision on the subsisting suit
The congress in Abuja yesterday upturned the initial bid and stated thus, “The bid exercise held on 15th and 16th December, 2010 for the selection of a title sponsor for the league should be invalidated.
“And that in the interest of justice, equity and fair play, machinery should be put in place for the conduct of a fresh bidding process for the selection within two weeks,” the communique read. The Premier League executive committee was also advised to reshuffle the bid committee.
