IGP orders Delta CP to probe Ibusa killings

By Austin Ogwuda
THE Inspector General of Police, IGP, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Delta State to urgently carry out a thorough investigation into the incessant killings at Ibusa and ensure that “it is not only conclusively investigated but justice seen to have been done.”

Ibusa town, located in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, had  witnessed  series of killings leading to protests by natives, complaining that the incessant killings were posing serious security concerns  to the community as they were now afraid to go to their farms.

The marching order followed a petition by an Asaba-based legal lawyer, Mr. Ewere Odiase, on behalf of the victims, to the office of the Inspector General of Police. The petition said, “you will recall the recent publicity in national media regarding the murder of several young men by well known hoodlums in Ibusa, and we are sad to report that as at today, the culprits have not been brought to justice by the state Police Command.

“It is shocking that the Delta State Police Command has decided to sweep these murders under the carpet. Is murder now to be tolerated? Are victims of assassination entitled to justice? We urge you to intervene swiftly irrespective of how highly placed the assailants and collaborators may be.

“Our singular prayer is that you recover the case file from Delta State Police Command and direct a high powered, discrete and result-oriented investigation aimed at prosecuting persons found wanting,” the petition added.

Contacted, the state Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka said “we are already investigation the matter.”
