LAGOS—Fire, Monday, razed the male block of the artistes camp of National Troupe of Nigeria, located a few metres from the snack and drinks bar (Abe-igi) at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

No life was lost but property,  which the artistes,  who are currently on annual leave, left behind were completely burnt before the arrival of men of the National Theatre Fire Service, who did their best to stop the fire from spreading to other blocks.

Although the cause of the fire has not yet been established, preliminary inquiry indicates that it may have been caused by power surge following return of light to the hostels by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.

The Artistic Director, Mr. Martin Adaji and members of management team, who visited the scene of the fire incident expressed surprise at the incident. He said, “this has never happened before. I understand that efforts were made to put off the fire but the windy weather aided it.

“We thank God that no life was lost. We will set up a committee to investigate the cause of the incident.”

He commended Lagos State Fire Services Commission, whose  early response to the rescue call  helped to avert further loss.

In a related development, a member of the National troupe miss janet iluyomade was involved in a ghastly motor accident on her way to Ondo from Lagos to observe her leave. The dancer who hails from Ondo town reportedly had the crash while driving in herToyota car around ijesha Tedo area, near Ondo. She is currently receiving treatment in Ondo town and will be brought to lagos for further medical attention should the need arise.
