eBusiness Life holds 2nd Broadband Summit in Abuja

By Emmanuel Elebeke

The second Broadband Summit organized by e_Business Life Communication has been slated to hold in Abuja in February 2011.
The seminar which has its theme as: Broadband Revolution:

The Next Growth Strategy – Reaching the Nigerian Consumers, is aimed at bringing ICT stakeholders together to chart ways of utilizing the expected abundant bandwidth and focusing on the most viable ways for Broadband deployment in Nigeria. It will also look at ways of ensuring availability of Broadband services to consumers all over the country while underlining profitability for service providers.

Expected to speak at the event are both government and private sector decision makers drawn from the various sectors of the economy.
Speaking on the event, Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of e-Business Life Communication Limited noted that with the landing of submarine cables on the shores of Nigeria and the expected deluge of internet related activities, stakeholders at the event are expected to point out ways to further ensure the profitable use of available bandwidth to boost economic and social activities in the country. They are also expected to proffer direction to the deployment of broadband services around the country.

Analysts have noted that with the reality of the availability of Broadband technology on ground, the country would have to look for ways of channeling available bandwidth and ensuring that it gets to the hinterlands. “The biggest challenge might be last mile deployment. But how do we go about it? This is one of the things stakeholders will tell us at the event”, Mrs. Emuophedaro disclosed.

She observed that the market is hungry for Broadband services, which is made more obvious by the growth rate in mobile technology and need for online, real-time interface; and that the market is ripe in Nigeria.

According to Mrs. Emuophedaro, the major objective of setting up and operating a unified ICT infrastructure platform and a national network backbone is to realize the MDG goals through the facilitation of digital inclusion of underserved areas and rural communities. This, she observed, will be one of the focal points of the event.

The event is geared towards bringing key stakeholders together to examine current successes and chart a new course for the future of Broadband connectivity in Nigeria.

It will also create opportunities for synergies and alliances for growth, while producing a definite guide and reference point for growth in the ICT industry.

The event will also engage government at all levels as well as their agencies and draw foreign investors. Participation will be drawn from the ICT, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Financial and Health sectors, among others. It is also open to all stakeholders.
