Alleged N40bn scam: NRC MD quizzed again

ABUJA — Managing-Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation ,NRC, Mr Adeseyi Sijuwade, who was accosted by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday over allegation of over N40 billion contract scam was again interrogated yesterday by investigators of the anti-graft agency.

It was reliably gathered that while the NRC MD was granted administrative bail after his arrest on Wednesday, he was asked to report at the agency’s headquarters the next day to answer questions which were unclear to the operatives.

According an EFCC dependable source, Sijuade is being quizzed over allegations of irregularities in the award of contracts for the rejuvenation of the rail system totalling over N40 billion.

Sijuwade was arrested by the EFCC following a petition filed with the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, alleging that the railway helmsman was scheming to award a  railway contract to a company he has interest in without following due process as stipulated by the Public Procurement Act of 2007.

Head, Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Mr Femi Babafemi, confirmed that the interrogation of the NRC boss was still in progress, adding: “Our operatives will stop at nothing to uncover the truth behind the allegations against him.”

Omatseye remains in custody

In a related development, EFCC spokesman, Babafemi, also confirmed that Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr Temisan Omatseye, who was on Wednesday re-arrested for his role in the alleged looting of N1 billion from the organisation’s coffers, has remained in the commission’s custody.

According to Babafemi, “Omatseye remains in our custody while the commission waits on the court for a date for his arraignment.”

The EFCC image maker explained that the NIMASA DG was likely to be arraigned at a Lagos high court next week, saying charges had already been filed.
