LAGOS—Policemen attached to Okota Division have arrested a 46-year-old man (names withheld), who allegedly masterminded the killing of his mother last December in Isolo area of Lagos.

Also arrested were a popular self-acclaimed member of the outlawed Odua Peoples Congress,OPC, who resides in Mushin area of the state and another unidentified fellow. The OPC member allegedly pulled the trigger that snuffed life out of the 65-year-old woman.

The deceased, Alhaja Shakirat Idowu, was killed in her Akiti Avenue abode, the night she returned from the United States of America.
Her son was said to have gone to picked up his mother from the airport. But hardly had Alhaja Shakirat settled down than three armed men stormed the apartment, demanding for  cash and her luggage.

Report said she put up resistance only to be shot at close range, while the armed men took away over 50,000 US dollars, and other valuables.

Investigation into her death eventually led to the arrest of her  son, Monday, and he reportedly made starling confessions of having a hand in his mother’s death.

During investigation, Adedeji, an American deportee, reportedly confessed  to have hired the services of the armed men to dispossess his mother of cash, claiming,  however, that he never sent them to kill her.

He was said to have further confessed to have been given only two hundred dollars as against the fifty thousand dollars stolen, with two laptops which were recovered from his apartment.

Adedeji who was thereafter transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, according to police sources, made useful statement which led to te arrest of Ologede and an unidentified member of the gang that struck on December 1, 2010.
