‘Lagos PDP has learnt its lesson’

By ABDULWAHAB ABDULAH
A Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Dr. Ade Dosumu, says the party has learnt its lesson and was prepared to wrestle power from the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in this year’s elections.

Dosumu stressed that his party was ready to present credible and knowledgeable candidates to contest for political offices in the state, adding that recent events in the state had shown that PDP is well- rated by voters who are ready to vote for it.

On his candidacy, Dosumu said he was more than prepared to face other aspirants within the party and eventually emerge as the PDP standard-bearer in the governorship election.

He noted that his programmes of action and his achievements in the public sector is enough for him to win the PDP ticket as well as winning the governorship election in the state.

He said, “Political contest is all about perception; we don’t need to narrow it down to political party. Our emphasis should now be shifting away from party to personality. As a ruling party, it does not mean that all the people in ACN are credible. This is also applicable to all other parties. What we are saying now is that we have to look at the personality that is the flag-bearer of a party, and what he can offer.

“That will influence the peoples’ decision as to whether they are to vote for a party or not. Looking at the previous elections, I don’t think ACN has done too fantastic, compared to the number of the registered voters. So, I feel that our party has learnt a lot on our previous attempts and we have identified those areas where we can improve upon and we are not going to allow those mistakes to repeat itself.”
