The governorship aspirant of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Ebonyi State, Senator Julius Ali Ucha, was Thursday attacked by thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Vanguard gathered that the thugs stormed Eke market square, Onueke,  Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi State, at 10 am when the ANPP governorship aspirant was meeting with stakeholders of Ezza nation to intimate them of his governorship ambition.

Chairmen of Ezza South and Ezza North local government areas of the state, Lazarus Ogbee, and Barrister Ikeuwa Omebe had placed a radio announcement, calling for a meeting of stakeholders of Ezza nation on the same day and at same time. This action provoked the violence that ensued thereafter.

It was also gathered that the thugs went to Eke market square where the stakeholders of Ezza nation had converged to listen to Senator Ucha and smashed chairs and other items put in place for the organization of the gathering.

It took the intervention of the senator and men of the Nigerian police force to save the situation, as Senator Ucha was seen kneeling down, begging his supporters not to engage the PDP thugs in physical fight.

However, the destruction and obstruction of the meeting at the market square led to shifting of the meeting venue to Central School field, Onueke, where a mammoth crowd of Ezza extraction gathered,  as the youths of Ezza nation sang along the federal roads in the area.

Addressing the stakeholders of Ezza extraction later, Senator Ucha appealed to the people of the state and his supporters to remain calm, adding that his ambition was to re-position the state towards greater development.

He said his administration would, among other things, embark on total rehabilitation of the state and ensure that all the dead sectors in the state, such as health, education and information sectors, were re-positioned.
