ABEOKUTA– FORMER Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, yesterday made a triumphant entry into Abeokuta, the state capital after seven and a half years self exile and declared that Ogun State had no governor but a sole administrator.
Chief Osoba at a rally in his Ibara Government Reservation Area, GRA, home organised by his political party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, said the situation in Ogun State was not different from a military government. He was accompanied to the rally by former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo.
He said: “Ogun State has no governor but a sole administrator. There is no local government, no House of Assembly. What is the difference between what we have now and a military government?
“We want to call on President Goodluck Jonathan to as a matter of urgency, intervene and ensure that the 15 members of the house are given security protection so that the House can sit and Ogun State would have a legislature.”
The former governor alleged that despite the fact that Governor Daniel collected over N9 billion as security vote, he had not been able to contain the insecurity in the state.
Chief Osoba argued that while he was in government; he collected N20 million throughout his tenure and that the present government was collecting N200 million monthly.
He said “I challenge him (Daniel) to speak out on what he has been doing with the security votes. As chief security officer of the State, he must produce the body of age Animashaun.”
Addressing the huge crowd that thronged his compound, including over eight governorship aspirants of the party took time to explain why he decided to stay away from the state, saying that he felt he had had enough of insults by Governor Olugbenga Daniel.
He said: “the government said I was a monster, that I stole government radio and reported me to then President Olusegun Obasanjo who invited me to Ota and brought out a security report that I wanted to kill Daniel and that I was monitoring him on the radio.
“I said ‘haba, you know how long I have been using a radio, it was used when Dimka was caught, how old was he in 1976’? They then cut water supply to my House and in October 2003 he said I wanted to kill him and his wife and policemen came to my house in Lagos to arrest me.
“I asked them to get a warrant of arrest in Lagos and they stayed in my house till they got it and I was asked to go to Zone 2 where the Edo State Commissioner of Police then was the one who investigated the matter. A N50 million bail bond is still on my head. He has to apologise.
“Again, he said I wanted to disturb his second year anniversary and arrested Aare Kehinde. I found out that he had nothing to offer only to use me as a cover up for his ineptitude. So I decided to stay away. He has done seven and a half years and we have seen all that he can do.
“He said that he wants a debate with me; I am ready for him and it has started but we will debate formally after he leaves office. Let us all meet at the stadium for the debate on May 30, 2011. On May 29, 2011 ACN Governor would be sworn-in in Ogun State”
Earlier Chief Osoba had been received at Kobape by a huge crowd which brought traffic to a stand still at about 11.30 am led by leaders of the party including aspirants for all posts under the aegis of the party. A road show immediately followed taking him through major areas of Abeokuta including Ake, Ijemo, Itoku, Ibara and Oke-Ilewo.
Osoba riding in a black Sports Utility Van with former Governor Niyi Adebayo, waved at the people as some residents of the ancient town on sighting him brought out brooms, a symbol of his party in solidarity with him.
The party leaders include the Chairman Alhaji Ola Bello, Alhaji Abimbola Awofeso [Secretary] former Deputy Governors; Rafiu Ogunleye and Adegbenga Kaka, and several governorship aspirants including Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Are Remilekun Bakare, Alhaji Yomi Odunowo-Elegbede, Chief Gbenga Obadara and Mr. Kayode Soyinka.
