AWKA—ANAMBRA State has been selected as one of the three states to benefit from UNICEF’s support on Reforming Institutions Programme Incentive project.
Project manager of European Union Support UNICEF project, Abuja, Mr. Bishnu Timilsina, who announced this when he led a team of UNICEF representatives on a courtesy call on Governor Peter Obi in Awka, named Cross River and Jigawa States as other beneficiaries.
Timilsina said the project was in line with the planned incentive in water supply, sanitation and sector reform programme, explaining that the project was to reward the state for its outstanding performance in the area of public finance management and other remarkable achievements.
According to him, the project will include construction of water and sanitation facilities in institutions and communities, which would be funded by the benefitting communities, local government areas, the state, EU and UNICEF.
Responding, Governor Obi assured that the state would remain committed in fulfilling its part of the collaboration and called for widening of area of partnership with the agencies.
The governor said the support of the donor agencies had continued to assist the state in closing up budgetary gaps and pursuing its vision of achieving the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Professor Chinyere Okunna, said the state had continued to do well in its partnership with national and international agencies.
Professor Okunna commended Governor Obi for attracting and sustaining their collaboration through prudent management of resources and creating of enabling environment.
