BOLOU-NDORO community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State was razed yesterday, following an explosion from an illegal fuel depot in the community, leading to the displacement of about 5,000 villagers.
Reports from the area said the fire started at about 4.00 pm and that no less than 250 houses were completely burnt.
There is no fire service station in the riverine community and concerted efforts by the villagers to extinguish the fire failed.
An indigene of the community, Mr. Overy A. Fredrick, whose family house appears to be the only one standing, appealed to both the federal and state governments to come to the aid of the displaced villagers by reconstructing the town and sending them relief materials.
His words: “The fire was a result of somebody who stored fuel in his house, only one compound remains, please, help alert government to help build and send relief materials.”
