Unity Bank Plc recorded more than N10 billion profit before tax within the last nine months, its Group Managing Director, Alhaji Falalu Bello has announced in Lagos.
Speaking at the Unity Bank’s Day forum at the on-going Lagos international trade fair, Alhaji Falalu remarked that the bank was making a remarkable progress “in spite of our slow start and economic situation”.
The Group Managing Director said that the bank’s progress was underscored by its recent appointment by the federal government as the channel to disburse its N10 billion urban transport fund.
Alhaji Falalu said that it was his sincere hope that transporters in a cosmopolitan city like Lagos would visit any of the bank’s branches to take advantage of the fund.
He also expressed joy with the bank’s successful recapitalisation as requested by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), noting that the bank’s shareholders’fund was now more than N43 Billion.
Alhaji Falalu, who was represented by the bank’s regional manager (Apapa, Lagos), Mr. Yinka Yahaya, assured of the bank’s commitment to corporate governance principles and determination to serve its customers better.
Recounting the bank’s history of partnership toward the actualisation of the Mega City project of the Lagos State government, the managing director said that its branches in Lagos has increased to 37 while it had approved funds for the construction of the multi-billion Naira LAPOJ Shopping Complex in Lekki area of the state.
‘’We also participated in financing the the upgrading of MM2 Airport in Lagos to a world class standard,’’ he added.
Also speaking at the occasion, the President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Otunba Femi Deru, lauded the contributions of the bank to the growth of commerce and industry in the state and urged its leadership to consolidate on the gains of its recent re-engineering and re-branding.
