The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA in conjunction with the Nigerian Computer Society have concluded arrangement to visit this Friday, the Nigerian largest African IC market, the Computer Village, Ikeja to discuss many things including avenues to empower and assist IT practitioners among other things.
The visit, keen observers said, will give the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria, (CAPDAN) members the opportunity to relate the problems of the market, especially the lingering issues surrounding the relocation of the market to another site to the government. Other issues, affecting the market said to be the toast of International community, CyberLIFE gathered may also be discussed.
The visit, CyberLIFE further learnt may not be unconnected with how to position the market to attract more patronage from the West African sub-region.
“The visit is an effort of the Nigerian Computer Society which is a follow-up of my visit to Abuja recently. You recalled the NCS NITEX exhibition held Aprill 14 to 16 this year at the University of Lagos . That event necessitated the DG’ s visit,” said Mr Tajudeen Ejalonibu, Chairman, Publicity and Trade Services Committee of NCS in a text message on Monday.
It would be recalled that the National Information Technology Development Agency is the clearing house for IT projects in the public sector. The Agency is committed to the drive to bring government and its services closer to the people through IT. Entrusted with the implementation of the National IT policy, which seeks to make Nigeria an IT capable country in no distant future, NITDA has been mandated to supervise the management of the country code Top Level Domain as a national resource.
NITDA’s mandate includes, but are not limited to the following:
lOperate and implement the National IT policy and to give effect to provisions of the national information Technlongy Development Agency Act of 2007
lEnsure that the entire citizenry is empowered with information technologies through the development of a critical mass of IT proficient and globally competitive manpower;
lEnter into strategiec alliance with the private sector as well as international organizations for the actualization of the IT vision.
lDevelop and regulate the Information Technology Sector in Nigeria.lTo ensure that Information Technology resources are readily available to promote efficient national development.
