INEC, LASIEC propose 400 wards for Lagos

By Clifford Ndujihe

If the joint recommendation of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, gets the endorsement of the INEC headquarters, Lagos will have 400 wards soon.

A LASIEC Commissioner, Mr Musbau Oyefeso, told reporters that the two electoral bodies raised a team, which came up with the recommendation to cater for the rapidly increasing population of the state.

According to him, a similar plea was made to increase the current 8,465 polling units to ensure that voters are not disenfranchised at the forthcoming polls.

Lagos State currently has 245 wards created by the Federal Government and 132 wards created by the state in its 37 LCDAs.

Oyefeso spoke during LASIEC’s last leg of its tour of 20 local councils and 37 local council development areas, LCDAs, in the state toward the delineation of wards and the creation of additional polling units.
