BENIN—WIFE of the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee and former Defence Minister, Senator Daisy Danjuma, yesterday, described as “wicked and untrue”,  rumours that she had decided to pursue her 2011 senatorial ambition in Taraba State, home of her husband, rather than Edo State, her ancestral home.

Senator Danjuma’s emergence in the Edo South senatorial race shocked observers, who felt she was hardly heard of, after she represented the people of Edo South district between 2003-2007.

However, the battle for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial primaries would be between her, the former Chief of Staff to the state government, Mr Isaiah Osifo and Henry Idahagbon.

The incumbent senator, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, had dumped the PDP for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and is seeking a return under the party.

However, there are reports (not Vanguard) recently that Senator Danjuma had dumped the idea of contesting the election in Edo state and had decided to pursue her ambition in Taraba state. A statement signed by her Campaign Organization, however, described the said publication as false and misleading.

The statement  referred “ the detractors to the Federal Character Commission principles which empowers married women to contest elective positions in their parental state of origin. So that publication should be disregarded.

The Senator between 2003_2007 performed excellently in the senate as Edo South representative and she is set to repeat the success recorded in the past in Edo state”.

The statement noted further that Senator Danjuma had concluded campaigns in the seven Local Government Councils in the South and assured that she will surpass her achievements recorded in the past if re-elected.
