Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, charged the 2010 intending Lagos pilgrims to Jerusalem to always focus on whatever would add value to their lives and the society.
This came even as workers in Lagos resumed duties after the one-day warning strike called by Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and other labour organisations to press for the implementation of N18,000 minimum wage in the country.
The governor gave the charge at the dedication service for the 2010 Jerusalem pilgrims from Lagos State, at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational) Alausa, Ikeja.
2, 500 intending pilgrims from the state have been listed to be airlifted to this year Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem commencing from November 20.
Fashola identified lack of values as being the bane of the many social-ills plaguing the Nigerian society, noting that the solution would be a reorientation towards better appreciation of moral, social and religious values.
He said: “A set of workers who have regards for values would not call for strike unjustifiably. They would have exhausted all avenues for negotiation and dialogue before calling for strike.
“Imagine what will happen to human beings if God decides to go on strike and He seizes the oxygen for 10 minutes.
“Security, prosperity, good education, jobs and all those things that combine every member of the country; they all go back safely to values.
“Let us go back to those vales to which God created us. Those values that make us fear him, act towards its rules and regulation.”
