ABUJA — AHEAD of the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the emergence of a Presidential candidate for the 2011 election, the Mallam Adamu Ciroma’s 17-wise Committee is waiting for the selection of sub- committee to submit its harmonised report after the Sallah celebration.

Vanguard gathered yesterday that at the end of the closed door meeting held by the Ciroma’s Committee in Abuja before the Sallah break, it was agreed that the selection sub-committee should harness the findings of Ciroma-led committee before a consensus aspirant would emerge, just as this was responsible for the delay in the presentation of a consensus candidate for the north.

It was also gathered yesterday that though the nation is on Sallah break for yesterday and today, the Selection Committee was urged to also use the break and work on the report before the Kaduna meeting slated for Sunday, November 21, where all the reports would be looked at by the enlarged Ciroma Committee.

There after, a meeting would then be fixed where the four Presidential aspirants, former military President Ibrahim Babangida, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Bukola Saraki and the immediate past Security Adviser, Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau will all attend and be briefed on the outcome of the Committee and the presentation of the ‘’anointed one”.

The meeting with the aspirants as gathered by Vanguard became imperative because it will not augur well for them to read the name on the pages of Newspapers as they have been cooperating with the Committee members since it came on board.

According to the source, the Ciroma’s Committee had concluded its work having gone round the North and its meeting with some southern leaders penultimate week, just as the source disclosed that an acceptable candidate will be made public after the committee has met with the four Presidential aspirants from the north.

The source said yesterday that the Selection sub committee and the Ciroma main Committee were getting support from the aspirants, even as the source told Vanguard that discussions with persons from other parts of the country have not been concluded against the backdrop that if the candidate emerges, he will be for the entire country and not a northern President.

A member of the Committee who spoke with Vanguard yesterday said, ‘’ my brother, you know this is Sallah break, but we are still working to meet the deadline”.

It would be recalled that the Ciroma’s Committee came up to choose among former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, Ex Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki and the immediate past National Security Adviser to the President, General Aliyu Mohammed Gusau as the Northern candidate.

At the end of the day, the chosen aspirant would wrestle the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP with President Goodluck Jonathan during the staggered primaries and the ratification at the party’s National Convention.
