A cross section of the operators who spoke to Vanguard Hi-tech over the weekend said they are better off today doing the business as they can now boast of three square meals a day compared to the period that preceded the liberalization of the sector, when they could hardly have a meal in day, due to joblessleeness in the country.
According to them, phone call business has enabled them to take care of their needs and contribute to the upkeep of their families.
Mmesoma Onyeka, who operates in Aguda, Surulere, a suburb of Lagos, revealed that call business was one of the good things that has happened to her as a citizen of Nigeria, following the positive difference the business had made in her life, just as it had created thousands of jobs for many unemployed Nigerians, including house wives.
She said she started her call centre business about three years ago with a very small amount of money is now generating more than thirty thousand naira (N30,000) monthly both from making calls for customers and selling of recharge cards.
Speaking in the same line, Mr Prince Joshua an Ikeja based call centre operator also said he started the business with small amount of capital through which he has been able to expand from mere phone calls and recharge cards seller to phones and accessaries dealer.
He however, said that lack of space to operate their business was their major challenge. He said because of this, Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI has continued to arrest and embarrass some of their members for alleged trading in unauthorised places.
