BENIN—NATIONAL Chairman of All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, weekend, in Benin, Edo State, urged Nigerians to prevail on their representatives at the National Assembly not to recognise the staggering of elections as proposed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saying that it would not be healthy for the country.
Onu, who made the call in Benin, while briefing newsmen, insisted that the proposed staggered elections, if allowed to take place, would have a bandwagon effect, which will have great economic and political consequences.
One of such political consequences, he said, was that it would create apathy as people would lose interest and may not even want to vote again.
“Our call for elections to be held in one day is because we want those who occupy elective positions to be those who enjoy the will of their people. What we now have in staggered elections, that will take place in three different days is designed to have bandwagon effect.
