Police foiled armed robbery

ABEOKUTA – A brazen attempt by heavily armed robbers to raid the Zenith Bank in Ijebu-Ode was foiled by policemen who killed two of them and arrested three persons of the hoodlums.

A vehicle loaded with sophisticated arms and ammunitions belonging to the robbers was also seized by the policemen.

A stray bullet,  however was said to have killed a lady recharge card seller in the area.

The armed robbers who were said to have arrived the Folagbade Street premises of the bank, Tuesday morning, in three buses and a car  started shooting indiscriminately in order to gain entry into the bank.

Policemen in Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) in front of the bank were said to have returned  fire and prevented them from gaining access to the bank while passers by ran for dear lives.

The robbers were said to have shot and deflated one of the tires of the APC while the policemen gave them a hot chase .

The policemen were said to have even at a stage came out of the APC to confront the hoodlums, killing two of them and arresting three in the process while the others escaped in three of their vehicles leaving one full of ammunitions behind.

Those arrested and the corpses of the ones killed were taken to Igbeba Police Station .
