NSC yet to settle athletes’ allowance

By Ben Efe, in New Delhi
Nigerian athletes have been reduced to the level of window shoppers at the sprawling Games Village, as they are unable to buy their basic needs just as their counterparts from other countries.

This is because the National Sports Commission director-general, Patrick Ekeji as at yesterday was yet to arrive New Delhi from Nigeria and settle the athletes’ daily allowance.

“We haven’t been paid our allowances since we came here. It’s been almost a week now, we have no money to buy some of the basic things (like call cards) we want to buy.

“We were told that when the director_general comes we would be settled. So we are waiting, “said a table tennis player as he leaned over a show glass in a phone shop at the Games Village.
