Former Green Eagles players Joe Erico and Henry Nwosu are miffed with the statement credited to  Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

Enyeama, shortly after the Super Eagles lost 0-1 to Guinea in the Africa Nations Cup qualifier, castigated the home-based players that featured in the game, stating that they were not ready for international football.

The comment by the Hapoel Tel-Aviv goalkeeper has since drawn serious flacks from ex internationals and football administrators alike, who described his comments as unprofessional.
Erico, the jogo bonito exponent and Nwosu were furious at his statement saying he has erred with his comments and need to apologize to the home -based.

“I‘m so disappointed that this statement is coming from somebody who the country hold in high esteem following his hard work for his fatherland. It is a pity that such word is coming from  a bonafide home made player like him who seen  played for some clubs in the country before he was chosen following his performance. He has forgotten so soon that he started as a league player.

Saying the home-based players are not professional he is totally wrong. He has forgotten so soon the fingers that fed him to the level he is now. We should not give him kudos for such comments, he came from home,  so did every player that played for the country. So he should watch the way he wags his tongue on home- based players,” Erico said.

On his part, Nwosu disagreed with his comment, saying the home-based players were not the problem with national team.

“I disagree with him, he is wrong, every player started from somewhere, same with him. The problem of the team is not the players. I have always said there should be room for both foreign  and home-based players to compete for shirts so that there will be some measure of seriousness in the team,” Nwosu said.
