ENUGU—The victory coast seems clear for Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State as town unions in the state, weekend, endorsed him for a second term.

Town union presidents, under the aegis of Enugu State Association of Town Union Presidents, ESATUP, rose from their meeting with a unanimous decision to adopt the governor as their preferred candidate in the forthcoming 2011 elections.

The adoption was the fallout of a recommendation by Mr. Emeka Ozoagu, President-General of Oyofo-Oghe autonomous community in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

Moving a motion for the governor’s endorsement, Cyprian Udeorah, who spoke on behalf of Enugu North Senatorial District, said:   “I speak on behalf of my people who are satisfied with the great work being done by Governor Chime.

“He has touched the lives of our people in many ways and we want to say clearly that we’re behind him as our sole candidate in the next polls.”

Chief Eric Ebeh, President-General of Mgbuji community, seconded the motion on behalf of Enugu East senatorial district.

He said:  “In seconding the motion, I want to put on record the appreciation of Enugu East zone for what the governor has done in our area in just over three years. That is why we want him to continue because one good turn deserves another.”

“The government of Sullivan Chime has brought smiles on the faces of our people.  When presidents-general of 445 autonomous communities speak with one voice about our support for Chime after we consulted with our various communities, it shows that the 2011 poll is a foregone conclusion in Enugu State,” said Chief Tony Amujiogu, President-General of Ihuonyia Amansiodo-Oghe in Ezeagu Council.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Chime, his Senior Special Assistant on Good Governance, Mrs. Tochi Eze, noted that the current administration in the state “is determined to involve the communities in whatever programmes that are being sited for them.

“That was why the government set up the Visit Every Community, VEC, committee which visited all the communities earlier to ascertain their preferred projects.

“Therefore, projects are being initiated to meet the needs of the communities, while the concerned communities must own and supervise such jobs.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Reduction, Goddy Ogboh, had inaugurated an interim executive committee of ESATUP and charged the presidents to “remain partners in progress with the government because we need each other to continue to deliver the good dividends of democracy.”
