President of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Rafiu Ladipo has confessed that he never expected the national team to lose to their Guinean counterparts in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea, Sunday.
Speaking on his return from the tiny West African country, Ladipo said the lesson to be learnt from the Guinea match was that, “you don’t underrate your opponent in any match.” He observed that “the Eagles approach to the match was casual maybe they thought they could just go in there and over-run the Guineans. They were damn too casual,” Ladipo observed.
Angered by the impotency of the Eagles attackers, Ladipo spoke of the listless displays by Tunisia-based Mike Eneramo and Obafemi Martins. “We had six clear chances and failed to use them. The Guineans had two and scored a goal. I just thank God that we did not concede more than one goal.
The supporters club boss prayed that the case hampering the Nigeria Football Federation from functioning should be done away with so that a substantive coach could be appointed for the team.
Said he, “we need a coach for the Eagles immediately. It is getting worse by the day. The situation has to be arrested.”
Ladipo said the reception in Guinea was tremendous as many Nigerians came out in their thousands to cheer the national team. “Unfortunately, most of them left disappointed.”
