Eagles depleted midfield give players concern

By Kate Obodo

The Super Eagles travelled to Conakry yesterday with a depleted midfield, leading to concerns within the squad.

Chelsea’s John Mikel Obi, Fulham’s Dickson Etuhu and West Brom’s Osaze Odemwingie all pulled out from the squad with injuries.

Former Udinese midfielder Chris Obodo was expected to be called up as replacement along with Michael Odibe, but neither got invited in the end, as the NFA faced a bigger battle upstairs.

Austin Eguavoen insisted though, that he has enough cover from among the domestic players.

Some on his squad are, however, not so confident.

Yusuf Ayila and Sunday Stephen were the preferred central midfield partnership at Friday afternoon’s training session, but it did not appear like Eguavoen was particularly pleased with the combination.
