Attack on Sylva was sponsored – George-Ikoli

By Samuel Oyadongha
Yenagoa—A pro-Sylva group, the Credible Sylva Movement, yesterday, said the booing and stoning of Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, during a civic reception organised for President Goodluck Jonathan, was sponsored to disparage the Governor.

The founder and patron of the group, Mr. Anthony George-Ikoli, SAN, in a statement, said the hosting of the President and the celebration of the maiden visit to his home state as President was a celebration of celestial ordination.

He said the action of the youths, imported from outside the state has exposed the poor political tactics aimed at discrediting the good works of the state Governor.

“It was an occasion by celestial ordination of the celebration of a national leader and native son made good, who had returned home but was seized upon by spawns of devilish beings, imported from outside the state to disrupt the joy of the people of the state,” he said.

While they seek to diminish the governor, they have diminished themselves. Let them know that those who do harm in the fullness of time will reap bountifully from the evil they have sown,” he said.

George_Ikoli, who is also the state Attorney_General and Commissioner for Justice, noted that the gathering was not only of politicians, but that those who have scores to settle have exposed themselves.

“We condemn the show of shame in its entirety. We advise the handful and misguided elements to open their eyes and see the glory of the Lord. We wish to say that they have added to the rising stock of the state governor.”

“Whilst we appreciate that there will be others of different political persuasions, we enjoin everyone and all Bayelsans to ventilate such differences in a most civilised and ennobling manner. On behalf of the Credible Sylva Movement, we thank everyone for the rousing welcome accorded Mr. President.”

He called on the youths of the state to be wary of politicians out to use them to disrupt the existing peace of the state.

“While government labour and toil ceaselessly to develop the state, the youths should partner by imbibing discipline and orderliness. They should make themselves unavailable to those out to create confusion,” the group said.
